So in a week's time, I will be leaving the States and flying back to Singapore! Time really flies, I still remember a year ago, in the plane flying from LA to Tucson, Arizona, I did not know what to expect or what I would experience.
I would say I have learnt a lot of things about US I previously didn't know. For example, I always thought countries up north from Singapore would have cooler weather as it is further from the equator. I was sooo wrong! Gosh, the heat in summer here is unbearable. It gets to over 40 degrees here! I guess I should have researched about where I was going. Haha.
So I stayed in an Arizona city called Tucson. Honestly, I never heard of the city and realised I was pronoucing it wrong all the while before I finally reached the country. LoL. It is a pretty quiet city, nothing much to do. It is a desert city which explains the weather.
I would say the highlights of my stay in the States was when I actually travelled out of Tucson. Coming here, I knew I had to travel! All the cities I have heard about, I wanted to see. The first one, which I went with my superior, was Vegas!
All the lights and lively atmosphere, it was a world away from Tucson. Much to do and Vegas was exactly what I expected it to be EXCEPT that it had 40 over degrees weather as well! Urghh.
When my workmate asked if I wanted to follow him and his family on a tour from New York to Canada, I could no way not accept. Haha.
Landing at New York, I was excited. The skyline was amazing. Walking around the city, it was spell-bounding. We thought it would be colder though, but again, it was warm weather. I think a lot of people have misconceptions about the weather.
I was always fancinated about Canada. I always hear of people wanting to move there. And when I heard that Niagara Falls was on in the itinerary, I couldn't wait! Niagara Falls was more magnificent than I imagined. The power of the water and the roaring sound, it was so beautiful!
Canada is a beautiful country, the nature the country has, makes you feel so relaxed. And I went during the autumn season, the fall foliage was really nice. However, it was freezing cold! I know the weather never seems to please me. Ha.
When I saw the Singapore Airlines commercial of San Francisco, I knew I had to go there. I would say the people of SF are the friendliest of all cities I have visited in the States.
Great landmarks to see and lots to do.
I know it seems like I just spent my time here travelling, but NO. I worked majority of the time. I just decided to blog about my travels, cause nobody wants to hear about someone else's working life. LoL.
And so, after a year living in the States, I am ready to go back home. The reason I chose the posting to stay here was to experience a different life, so now I have experienced it, it's time for me to fly back.
So the verdict: I rather much prefer life in Singapore. I miss my family and friends, the food, the rain, the city, the beaches, the sea, the nature, the places I used to hang out and my way of life. I guess it's true that no matter where you are in the world, home is where the heart is.
But I will definately miss the people I have come to know and friendships I have made. Goodbye USA!! =)
